While the cold weather and holidays may not make you think of vacations, there’s never a better time to start thinking about what you will do when emergencies arise and you’re not at home with your pet.
When you choose to go on a trip, where does your dog or cat go? If he goes to a kennel or family member’s house, you need to think ahead for what might happen if something happens to your pet and he needs medical attention.
Assume your thousands of miles away and unable to get back quickly. The kennel or your family member may not be able to help you financially take care of your pet’s health needs. Your vet may agree to provide the necessary treatment but without someone signing to accept financial responsibility for the bill he may be a bit reluctant.
However, if you have pet insurance then this will be a non-issue. The insurance will cover the bill so you won’t have to worry. At the most, the deductible might need to be covered but that’s usually no major problem. Your vet might even wait until you return from your trip to receive the payment.
Of course, if you go on a trip and bring along with your furry friend then pet insurance will be even more useful. Most plans are widely accepted so if you have a medical emergency away from home you won’t have to worry about racking up a huge bill you can’t afford. The insurance will cover it; some providers might even help you find an available vet in your area.
